A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in a crash on a major road in Herefordshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a crash involving a motorbike at 9.43pam at the junction of the A465 and A417 at Burley Gate in Herefordshire and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a BASICS emergency doctor, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival we found a man who was the motorcyclist who is believed to have suffered a medical incident.

“He received advanced life support from ambulance staff at the scene.

“Unfortunately, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”

West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were also at the scene.

The road was closed between Newtown Cross and Burley Gate, both ways, for several hours after the crash. It has now reopened.

A team from Balfour Beatty cleaned up the road prior to reopening, according to a Herefordshire Council spokesperson.

A fire service spokesperson said: “HWFRS was called out at 10.47am today to make a vehicle safe after a road traffic collision.

“One Hereford Fire Station crew attended the A417 at Burley Gate after the incident involving one motorcycle. Efforts were made to make the vehicle safe with fuel leaking onto the road, which was closed in both directions.

“The crew left the incident with the police at 11.15am.”
