A guard of honour for loyal servant Clayton

12:10pm Wednesday 30th July 2008

MALVERN Town stars past and present paid respect to long-serving star Nick Clayton at his testimonial.

Players including Darren Bullock, Des Cox, Mark Tipton and Steve Walker lined up for Clayton's squad in a side managed by former boss Neil Hunt.

They squared off against a team featuring Craig Humphries, Andy Crowther and Nick's brother Andy Clayton managed by current boss Joe Rawle and the man responsible for bringing Nick Clayton to the club, Adrian Green.

The match was held to recognise Clayton's loyal 13 years service at the Langland Stadium club. Before kick-off, the players formed a guard of honour for Nick to walk through before he was presented with a cut glass decanter and a ball signed by all the players.

His wife Emma was presented with a bouquet of flowers and his sons received a football before the match.

Sunday's fun-filled day also included a host of pre-match activities including a car boot sale, golf event, tombola and barbecue.
