Irish eyes are smiling as Hodgetts is crowned

A MALVERN tennis player fought through two qualifying rounds to win a junior event in Ireland.

David Hodgetts, who plays at the Manor Park Club, won the Tennis Europe Junior Tour u14 event in Dublin, having fought through two rounds of qualifying and then winning five matches to take the title.

In the final, David dropped the first set, narrowly took the second 7/5 and then won a final tight set 6/4.

David, who lives in Worcester, trains under the guidance of LTA performance coach Neil Devereux who is part of the coaching team at Malvern Tennis Academy.

At the grade three Bottlegreen Junior tournament held in sunshine at Manor Park, Malvern boy Simon Wikeley won in the 10u bracket, winning through the round robin events with the loss of one game and then winning both the semi-finals and final’s in fine form.

Results: Tennis Europe Junior Tour u14 Dublin.

Qualifying: Hodgetts beat David Fox 7/5, 6/4 and Riosha Shah 6/3 3/6, 6/2.

Main Draw: Bodgetts beat Brendon Millington Hermann 6/2 6/0, Jorge Wilton 7/5 6/1, Ben Lott 6/4 6/4, Gianmarco Tessier 6/4, 7/6 Tim Prosser 3/6 7/5, 6/4.
