DESPITE the persistent rainfall which turned many bunkers on the course into small ponds, golf has continued at the Worcestershire Golf Club without interruption.

A special event, The Captain’s Texas Scramble took place on August 10, followed by a social gathering.

The golf competition was won by the mixed team of Tim and Ann Wilson, Barry and Barbara Schofield with a net score of 57.

Nick Day, Rob Schooling, Kevin Field and Jason Dudley came second with 57.9 - decimal points being taken into account in the team handicap - and the captain Allan Davies, backed up by Colin Lane, Dave Jones and John Pilgrim came third with 58.1.

On Sunday, August 17, the mixed team entertained 24 golfers from Lilley Brook Golf Club, Cheltenham, and continued their winning ways in a Greensome Match which they won by 8.5 matches to 3.5.

This brings the score to four wins out of four matches played. There are two more to come, Herefordshire at home and Kings Norton, away, in September and October.

Also on Sunday, August 17, a Stableford competition for weekend golfers attracted a total entry of 27 golfers vying for the prize.

This was won by Nick Kay (17) with 37 points by virtue of a better back nine holes from Mark Groves (seven) and Paul Sharratt (16) who also scored 37 points.
